Strengthening Community Voices in Kenya’s Fisheries Governance
byMedia For Nature
For many small-scale fishers along Kenya's coast, decisions that directly affect their livelihoods are often made without their meaningful participation. When new fisheries laws and policies seem unfair or fail to reflect their realities, many are left unsure of the proper channels to raise their concerns and influence change.
To bridge this gap, the Tuna Fisheries Alliance of Kenya (TUFAK) organized a two-day workshop bringing together leaders from Beach Management Units (BMUs) and civil society organizations. The workshop equipped participants with a better understanding of fisheries governance, their rights to participate in decision-making, and practical ways to engage with policymakers at the county, national, and regional levels.
